EDGE Group is Abu Dhabi’s advanced technology and defence conglomerate, established in 2019 through the consolidation of over 25 defence-related entities into a single group. EDGE is ranked among the top 25 defence companies globally by revenue, making it the leading defence industrial entity in the Middle East.
Formation
EDGE was created by merging and restructuring numerous Abu Dhabi-based defence companies, research entities, and technology firms that had previously operated independently or under different government holding structures. The consolidation was designed to create a more capable, efficient, and internationally competitive defence industrial base. The group is chaired by Faisal Al Bannai, an Emirati technology entrepreneur.
Capabilities
EDGE operates across five business clusters: Platforms and Systems (armoured vehicles, vessels, and unmanned systems); Missiles and Weapons (guided munitions, missiles, and weapons systems); Cyber Defence (cybersecurity, electronic warfare, and intelligence systems); Electronic Warfare and Intelligence; and Mission Support (training, simulation, and maintenance services).
The group encompasses subsidiaries including NIMR (armoured vehicles), Al Tariq (precision-guided munitions), SIGN4L (electronic warfare), and Halcon (missiles). EDGE has also invested in autonomous systems, artificial intelligence applications for defence, and space technology.
International Presence
EDGE actively pursues international defence contracts and partnerships. The group has secured export orders from countries across the Middle East, Asia, and other regions. International partnerships include technology transfer agreements, joint development programmes, and co-production arrangements with established defence companies.
Commercial Technology
Beyond defence, EDGE has expanded into commercial technology applications including autonomous systems for logistics and inspection, cybersecurity services for commercial enterprises, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
Role in Vision 2030
EDGE supports the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030’s industrial diversification objectives. The defence and advanced technology sector creates high-value employment, develops advanced manufacturing capabilities, stimulates research and development, and generates export revenue — all priorities identified in the vision. Defence technology also provides a pathway for technology transfer into commercial applications, contributing to the knowledge economy that the vision envisions as Abu Dhabi’s long-term economic foundation.
